In March 2014, following a strong competitive process, the S4C Authority confirmed that the Channel’s headquarters would be relocated to the University of Wales Trinity Saint David’s campus in Carmarthen.

The Channel’s headquarters will be part of a new creative centre – Canolfan S4C Yr Egin – which will be home to a cluster of companies and organisations from the creative industries.

Canolfan S4C Yr Egin will be an innovative development located within a striking and iconic building on the outskirts of the ancient town of Carmarthen.

This will be a centre that will stimulate ideas and connections while nurturing talent and sharing resources – a creative melting-pot for practitioners and entrepreneurs from a variety of disciplines.  The centre will open during the first quarter of 2018.

On one hand, Canolfan S4C Yr Egin will offer S4C and the centre’s other tenants a strong national and international platform; on the other, Canolfan S4C Yr Egin will be rooted in Carmarthenshire, offering the local population numerous opportunities to enjoy the building and its variety of resources.

It will include a comfortable café area, a range of performance stages and an auditorium which will offer a host of events for different audiences.

Canolfan S4C Yr Egin’s Main Aims

  1. Establish a creative exchange of international standard and status, with the S4C headquarters at its heart;
  2. Create linguistic, cultural, economic and social benefits in Carmarthen and the south west;
  3. Stimulate further investment and economic growth in Carmarthenshire and beyond;
  4. Raise the status of the Welsh language and its culture in Carmarthen and the surrounding area in a public, contemporary and exciting way;
  5. Create an exciting cultural community to inspire and energise diverse social organisations and communities throughout the region.
