It will be a unique centre where initial ideas will be shared and developed; an incubator for the establishment of new companies and a breeding ground for a new generation of creative and technical people.
The building will be energy efficient with an inner area of around 3,600 square metres spread over three floors.
The design is based on the close relationship between the University, prospective tenants of the Centre and the wider community. This relationship, or trinity, is reflected in the design of the building: a simple triangular form that grows from Carmarthenshire’s soil. It is linked to the main campus by a large public square, which will allow for the staging of a variety of outdoor activities.
The internal design of the building is centred around an entrance hall and public atrium that overarches the three floors. There will be a specific focus on broadcasting and performance on the ground floor, with a range of offices for S4C and the other partners on the other two floors. The whole building will encourage collaboration, communication and interaction between all users of the building. Put simply, Canolfan S4C Yr Egin will offer a unique and exciting working environment as well as being a resource that the whole community – a venue for people of all ages to enjoy.
The building will be situated in the northern corner of the campus, completing a group of three buildings and thereby establishing a creative village concept.
