Canolfan S4C Yr Egin
Encouraging the language to flourish through creativity and innovation

Canolfan S4C Yr Egin will be located in the oldest town in Wales and within a 90 minute journey to around 65% of all Welsh speakers in Wales.

It is anticipated that Canolfan S4C Yr Egin will develop as a catalyst for promoting and strengthening linguistic regeneration within Carmarthenshire, whilst also supporting the development of Carmarthen town as an innovative area for the Welsh language and its culture.

The Centre will have a distinctive Welsh feel with a large number of the businesses working bilingually and employing Welsh-speaking staff.  Numerous events will be held in the Centre, offering a new, additional venue within the county which will enable local people to come together to socialise and enjoy themselves in a Welsh environment.

The fact that the S4C Authority has decided to relocate the Channel headquarters to Carmarthen is already having a positive effect on the area, giving both Welsh speakers and learners a new confidence.  In the same way, establishing Yr Atom – Carmarthen’s Welsh language Centre – has also had a positive development for the Welsh language in the town and it is anticipated that both developments will be seen to co-operate closely to ensure a distinct increase in the number of Welsh speakers in the town and surrounding district in years to come.
